At Future Building, we aim to make understanding your Commercial Recommendation Report (RR) as straightforward as possible. Alongside your commercial Energy Performance Certificate (EPC), you will receive this important report, which outlines recommendations for improving your property’s energy efficiency. Since significant changes were implemented in September 2020—transforming EPCs and RRs from PDFs to web pages hosted on a .gov website—we’ve clearly broken down each section of the RR to help you navigate and understand it.

Section 1: Core Information

The Core Information section contains essential details about the property and its corresponding Commercial EPC. You will find:

  • Property Address: The location of the property.
  • Report Number: A unique identifier that can be used to search for the report.
  • Expiry Date: When the report will expire.
  • EPC Information: Relevant energy efficiency rating and a link to access the EPC report.
  • Clickable Contents: For easy navigation through the report.
  • Sharing Options: Options to share the report.

Section 2: Recommendations with a 3-Year Payback Period

This section provides recommendations for improvements that could enhance the property’s energy efficiency rating. It’s important to note that these suggestions are not guaranteed to raise the rating and are presented with potential impact ratings classified as low, medium, or high. This differs from the residential recommendation chart, which provides specific numerical and letter scores along with typical installation costs and estimated yearly savings.

If a commercial property’s EPC rating needs to be raised to meet Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES), we highly recommend booking our MEES Consultancy service. This service offers tailored improvement scenarios based on your property’s specific data, analysed with specialist EPC software. Find out more about MEES Consultancy here.

Section 3: Recommendations with a 7-Year Payback Period

Similar to the previous section, this part outlines recommendations that would take seven years or more to recoup their costs. These longer-term investments can also significantly improve energy efficiency.

Section 4: Property & Report Details

In this section, you’ll find important details such as:

  • Report Date: The date the report was completed.
  • Property Size: The total area of the property measured in square metres.
  • Building Environment: Information regarding the property’s environment.
  • Software Used: The software utilised for calculating the EPC and RR.

Section 5: Assessor Information

This section contains essential information about the assessor who conducted the survey, including their qualifications and experience. Having this information can provide you with confidence in the reliability of your report.

Section 6: Additional Reports

In Section 6, you can find links to other relevant reports for your property, such as TM44 Air Conditioning reports, for easy access.

Understanding your Commercial Recommendation Report is essential for making informed decisions about improving your property’s energy efficiency. At Future Building, we’re here to assist you through the process and help you achieve your energy efficiency goals.
